Overview: The Tax & Compliance Manager will own and manage the
firm’s multi-state tax and regulatory compliance function. This
role serves as the organization’s internal subject matter expert on
state tax, business entity compliance, and regulatory filing
requirements across jurisdictions. This individual contributor role
is responsible for ensuring the firm remains fully compliant with
all state and municipal registration, licensing, and tax
obligations. The Tax & Compliance Manager will work closely with
the company’s registered agent, external advisors, accounting team,
and auditors to manage registrations, filings, and regulatory
compliance across all jurisdictions in which the firm operates. The
ideal candidate brings strong experience in state and local tax
compliance, regulatory research, and multi-state filings, and has
the ability to independently interpret complex regulatory
requirements and implement compliant processes for the
organization. This hybrid role reports to the Controller and will
primarily work remotely, with 2 days per week onsite in our Iselin,
NJ office. This is a full-time salaried position offering a base
salary of $105,00 to $125,000 (commensurate with experience),
comprehensive benefits, paid time off, paid training and
performance-based bonuses. We are flexible on compensation based on
the candidate's experience. Key Responsibilities: Ownership of Tax
& Compliance Function Serve as the firm’s subject matter expert for
state tax and regulatory compliance. Own and manage the firm’s tax
and compliance framework across all jurisdictions where the company
operates. Establish and maintain processes to track state
registrations, licensing requirements, filings, and tax
obligations. Ensure the organization remains compliant with
evolving state and municipal regulatory requirements. State
Registrations, Licensing & Entity Compliance Manage all state
business registrations, licenses, permits, and entity filings. Work
directly with the firm’s registered agent to complete new state
registrations and maintain existing filings. Oversee and track
annual reports, renewals, and compliance filings across
jurisdictions. Ensure compliance with state-specific taxes beyond
sales tax, including business entity taxes and other regulatory
obligations. Multi-State Tax Comliance Maintain oversight of the
firm’s compliance with: State income tax Sales and use tax Payroll
tax obligations Business entity and franchise taxes Research and
determine state-specific tax requirements for new business
activities or jurisdictions. Maintain documentation supporting the
firm’s tax positions and compliance processes. Regulatory Research
& Compliance Monitoring Conduct independent research to identify
state and municipal regulatory requirements. Monitor changes in tax
laws and regulatory frameworks that may impact the firm. Develop
and maintain compliance documentation and regulatory tracking
systems. Audit Support Support internal and external audits related
to tax and regulatory compliance. Prepare documentation and
supporting schedules required during audits. Provide research and
documentation to support tax positions and compliance decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with accounting, finance,
legal, and leadership teams to ensure tax and regulatory
compliance. Provide guidance on state compliance requirements
related to operations, registrations, and tax obligations. Assist
with special projects related to expansion into new states,
regulatory requirements, and operational compliance. Required
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a
related field. 6 years of experience in corporate tax compliance,
state and local tax (SALT), or regulatory compliance. Core
competencies should include: Regulatory compliance management
Multi-state tax compliance Broad state and local tax expertise
(state income tax, sales and use tax, payroll tax, business entity
taxes) State licensing and registration requirements Demonstrated
experience managing state registrations, regulatory filings, and
compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Strong ability to
research and interpret state tax laws and regulatory requirements
independently. Experience supporting tax audits or regulatory
audits. Exceptional organization skills, process ownership, and
attention to detail, with the ability to track compliance
requirements across numerous jurisdictions. Preferred Background
Candidates with the following backgrounds are strongly encouraged
to apply: Public accounting firms with experience in state and
local tax (SALT) or tax compliance Corporate tax departments with
multi-state compliance responsibilities Law firms or consulting
firms specializing in tax or regulatory compliance Experience with
tax research platforms such as Bloomberg Tax or similar research
